Was a great opportunity to represent Marsden:
Discussion On Community Safety
Published: 19 May 2015
Community safety
Strengthening Neighbourhood Watch Groups and increasing Police Liaison Officer numbers in Logan were among topics discussed when the Logan: City of Choice Leadership Team invited local community safety leaders to its meeting on 1 May 2015.
The round-table discussion was the second in a new series of meetings between the Leadership Team and community leaders from a range of sectors in Logan City.
Represented at the meeting were Neighbourhood Watch Groups Logan Central 5, Woodlands, Marsden and Kingston. Logan-Beaudesert Crime Stoppers also attended, along with a representative from the Queensland Police Service (QPS) Logan District.
Guests were invited to speak about emerging issues within the community safety sector, and a recurring theme for Neighbourhood Watch Groups was the challenge of attracting new members, especially those from younger generations.
The Leadership Team agreed that more support and resources were necessary for these groups to help them better connect with their communities of interest. The need to strengthen Neighbourhood Watch Groups will be incorporated into the new Safety Plan currently being developed by Logan City Council.
Also during the meeting, the QPS representative confirmed that a new Police Liaison Officer had been appointed to the Logan Police District. The new officer is of Samoan heritage. Logan Police are looking to also appoint an Islamic Police Liaison Officer.
Logan: City of Choice Safety Portfolio Leader, Councillor Russell Lutton, said the meeting provided an opportunity for community safety leaders to receive an update on the safety initiatives being delivered through the City of Choice Two-Year Action Plan.
"It was also invaluable for the Leadership Team to speak directly with some of the tireless volunteers working to help keep our community safe, and to also hear directly from the Queensland Police Service," Cr Lutton said.

QFES responds to fires started from electrical appliances being misused or not properly maintained every winter; in fact there were 20 of these last year. Heater fires often occur when appliances are too close to flammable materials like blankets, mattresses, pillows or clothing. Regardless of their age, annual checks of heaters and electric blankets are crucial. Look out for fraying or exposed cords or rust. If in doubt, check with an electrician. ‪#‎freezefirefatalities‬
Reconciliation-Unity-Respect-Moving Forward
Today at MSS we celebrated and acknowledged the importance of Reconciliation Week in Australia's history. Students from Prep to Year 6 contributed in placing the 'Sea of Hands' to spell the word SORRY, and walked through a timeline of events that taught students about why we acknowledge and celebrate Reconciliation Week. Take a look below to see what we did at MSS in 2015 to "Change it Up!".

Do you have an issue with dogs barking or causing concern? Contact the Logan City Council Animal Management Team if you can't resolve the issues with the animal owners.
you can find more information on the councils website at
Do you have an issue with Hoon's or illegal vehicle activity in your area? While Neighbour Hood Watch can't influence what Police operations are happening in the area, we can help you get the information to the right areas.
If you have an issue then we encourage you to call the Hoon Hotline - 13HOON
To counter hooning, the police set up a dedicated Hoon Hotline in December 2010.
You can report hoons online or by calling the Hoon Hotline on 13HOON (13 4666). If possible you should tell the operator:
* what the vehicle is and looks like
* what hooning activity the vehicle was doing
* the registration plates
* the date, time and where the vehicle was.
This will help the police identify and stop the hoon. If you have an email address you can also report a hooning incident online.
We as a community are the eyes and ears on the ground for QPS - if you don't report it they won't know. If enough of the residents report key information the Police may have enough evidence to resolve the issue!!
Get active.....

Myth Busters – Keep Left Unless Overtaking

Myth-Busters-Photo-300x300“It is ok to drive in the right-hand lane if there is no ‘Keep Left Unless Overtaking’ sign.”
INCORRECT
If the speed limit is 90km/h (or more) on a multi-lane road you must keep to the left lane unless overtaking, avoiding an obstruction or the left lane is congested. This applies whether there is a ‘Keep Left Unless Overtaking Sign’ or not.
It is an offence ($68 fine and two demerit points) to drive in the right lane if you are not performing one of the above actions.
Of course you must keep also left on multi-lane roads with a speed limit below 90km/h if there is a Keep Left Unless Overtaking sign.
Drivers are only allowed to overtake on the left on multi-lane roads.

Help us fundraise - books are ready to collect now!!!!
We need your input:
We will be able to put up the Neighbourhood Watch area signs around Marsden.
We need to identify where these should go so we are calling on residents to let us know where they should be.
Get in touch with us and have your say!
FYI Residents:

Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) advises that between May and September 2015 they will be conducting an Address Canvassing Exercise.  This involves a large number of field officers updating and geo-coding address information within defined geographical areas across Australia.  Field Officers will be observing the premises from the footpath and entering the information onto I-Pads.  The only premises they will be required to approach to get further information will be hotels, apartment and unit complexes, nursing homes and similar accommodation venues.  The field officers will be identifiable by an ABS lanyard and identification card.   They may also be wearing a black and red ABS supplied backpack.

The field officers will be working 7 days per week during day lights hours.  Attendance in the Marsden area will be somewhere between 4th May – 17th July 2015.

If you have concerns you can call Policelink on 131 444
